In our fast-paced, information-rich world, attention is more than just a focus point—it’s a currency.
With the recent U.S. elections, we were bombarded with a relentless stream of data, much of it designed to provoke and capture our focus. While staying informed is important, cultivating the discipline to modulate what we consume is equally vital. After all, where our attention goes, energy flows—and ultimately, that shapes the reality we experience.
In a previous article, How Your Words Propel or Stall Your Path to Success, I wrote: “Get clear on what you want—and speak that into being. Focus on what you do want, not on what you don’t. In an energetic universe, where we place our attention is where our energy flows, so it’s vital to align our words with our desired outcomes.” This message bears repeating: The Universe doesn’t interpret polarity; it responds to the energy we project without distinction.
This week, I’d like to expand on this idea and share ways to remain informed while tuning into your inner wisdom. In a world overflowing with distractions, the highest level of leadership—and ultimately, success—depends on mastering your attention. Cultivating discipline over your focus and fostering a mindset that consistently draws on your inner wisdom will keep you on a fortunate, purpose-driven path.
Maverick Jesse Desjardins and I recorded several conversations, including one on how to turn down the external noise to tune into your own inner knowing. You can listen to it here. Jesse shared how working with social media had created a constant mental buzz, leaving little room for his own insights. He found that dedicating even 20 to 30 minutes each day to meditation allowed his mind to quiet down, creating resilience against external noise. This intentional pause lets him connect with his own thoughts and wisdom—a practice that helps him stay on a clear, lucky path.
I, too, find it essential to be selective with what I consume. I perform a quick scan of the news to gain a general sense of current events but resist clickbait and drama-laden headlines that can drain energy and distract from my purpose. Instead, I focus on substantive content from people I respect. From there, I give myself space to integrate what I’ve absorbed with my own insights and intuition.
This approach isn’t just about being informed; it’s about being in tune with what’s truly meaningful to us. In an energetic universe, what draws us is often a clue to something we’re meant to learn or explore. If a topic or person resonates deeply, it’s likely because there’s insight within that material for us. By consciously choosing what to engage with—and giving ourselves time to process—we create fertile ground for our own ideas to emerge.
A story Jesse and I discussed highlights beautifully the power of tuning into our inner knowing. A few years ago, after a dear friend of mine passed away in an accident here in Fiji, Jesse had an intuitive nudge to send me a video—a gift of calm and connection that arrived when I needed it most. More recently, another friend reached out because during her meditation, she felt a nudge to ask me for styling assistance for four high-profile speaking engagements—something I absolutely love to do! Both examples illustrate that when we follow our intuition, it leads us exactly where we need to be, even across oceans and time zones. Listening to these subtle nudges is a form of luck—an alignment that can only happen when we’re tuned into our own knowing.
Magic unfolds when we embrace our inner wisdom. By being disciplined with our attention and carving out space to listen, we not only gain clarity but often become “lucky” recipients of opportunities and connections that might otherwise pass us by. These intuitive nudges connect us to people, projects, and paths aligned with our true intentions, often before we’re consciously aware of them.
In a world filled with chaotic currents, this is next-level leadership—a practice of attention management that ensures you’re not merely reacting but intentionally shaping your path. Here are some ways to cultivate that intentional focus:
- Curate Your Inputs: Limit your news and media sources to those that genuinely inform and uplift you. Avoid sensationalist content designed to hook and drain your attention.
- Create Space for Your Thoughts: Schedule daily quiet time—whether it’s meditation, journaling, or simply reflecting without distractions. This practice allows your mind to process and integrate external influences with your inner wisdom.
- Honor Your Intuition: Pay attention to those subtle nudges or insights that feel meaningful. Often, these are messages from your subconscious, guiding you toward growth or connection.
By mastering our attention, we elevate ourselves as leaders, entrepreneurs, and individuals. For more on tuning into your inner wisdom, check out the Quantum Surfing YouTube channel and the Surf Report with Monica and Jesse, where we explore this journey of aligned living.
