The moment you realize you’re chasing opportunities at networking events is the moment you should start changing your frequency.
Every year I adopt a word. For 2025, I chose “magnetic.”
And wow. What a year.
Opportunities didn’t just arrive, they flowed. Incredible people didn’t just appear, they reached out. I wasn’t hunting. I wasn’t hustling. I was simply receiving.
But here’s what I didn’t expect: Eight months into my magnetic experiment, I received an unexpected gift. The gift of precognition.
It started with Jaco, my beloved dog at Tavola. On Monday, a thought surfaced: Maybe it’s time to get a puppy so our two dogs can train the next generation for security on the property. Tuesday, I discussed it with our manager in Fiji. We decided Jaco, territorial as he was, wouldn’t welcome a newcomer.
Three days later, Jaco went to sleep and didn’t wake up.
That “random” thought about a puppy? It wasn’t random. It was connected to what was coming.
So I started paying attention to these little nudges. And they kept arriving.
I didn’t speak them aloud until January, when my son came to celebrate the new year. I gave him my car to drive up to the mountains for skiing. About an hour before he called, I got a feeling: He’s going to call about the car.
The car was in perfect working condition.
When he called, I answered: “Hey, you’re having trouble with the car?”
Silence. Then: “Yes! It’s losing power going up hills.”

Now here’s where magnetism gets practical.
You know that networking event where you worked the room, collected cards, followed up religiously—and nothing happened? That’s chasing. And the quantum field responds to chasing by giving you more to chase.
When I stopped chasing in 2025, the business results were almost comical. My alma mater tracked me down in Denver and invited me to join the university’s entrepreneurship and innovation board of advisors. I’ve now taught at the university, several collaborations have emerged, and I’ll be their entrepreneur in residence later this year. I’m also co-hosting a venture event in Fiji with a top-tier Silicon Valley VC in 2027. And Tavola bookings came from guests who said they “just felt called” to find us.
I didn’t pitch harder. I didn’t network more strategically. I simply became someone opportunities wanted to find.
The precognition? That was the bonus round. When you tune your frequency to receive instead of chase, you start picking up signals you didn’t know existed. The nudges. The knowing. The quiet certainty that something is coming before it arrives.
Recognizing this ability to tap in, I now ask: Is it time to make this move? To take this action? To reach out? And I only take action when I get a sensory yes.
Here’s the Maverick truth: When you commit to an experiment—in this case, becoming magnetic instead of chasing—you unlock gifts you couldn’t have imagined. We are all connected in quantum consciousness, and the nudges are always there, waiting for us to tune in. Most of us just aren’t tuned to receive them.
My upcoming book Lucky by Design shares how to tap into this flow—the methodology for becoming predictably lucky, all in one place.
But you don’t have to wait for the book to start your own experiment.
What word will you adopt for 2026? ✨
