I’ve always been fascinated by what makes exceptional people tick. What makes them tackle audacious challenges? How do they think? And what ways of being can we adopt for our own bold and beautiful lives?
I had the good fortune to grow up with a maverick uncle who was both a successful venture-backed entrepreneur and an adventurer. He traveled the world in the 1970s, when remote was still truly remote. And when he came home, we would head to the track and race go-karts. I loved zipping around those curves at top speed. It was absolutely exhilarating, and it’s probably why I adore F1 racing now. I would hang on every story my uncle shared, whether it was surviving the eye of a cyclone on a deserted island or competing in a Hawaiian sailing regatta. He was exceptional. A visionary. A maverick. I’ve learned so much from him — and others. And their stories have urged me to be more open, more curious and ultimately, more successful. Their stories made me believe that anything is possible, especially with a grin and a lucky spin. They all inspired me to go for it!
Today I have a luxe private villa resort in the Fiji Islands, called Tavola. There, we dance in the kitchen and hang out at the table as the stars start to twinkle. The most incredible people take a seat at that table. And like I did with my uncle, I hang on every word of their tales. But I’m not always in Fiji, and so I’ve been feeling to cultivate a virtual community of inspiring people. Mavericks is my antidote — and my offering to you. Enjoy. x
