Think back, how did you meet your best friend? Your lover? Your colleague? Was it by chance?
I love the unexpected joy of serendipity. Which probably comes as no surprise since I teach entrepreneurs how to be predictably lucky. (Check out my TEDx talk — You Need Luck to Succeed.) As it turns out, our behaviors drive our luck. When we stay in our same routines and protect ourselves in our comfort zones, not much changes. But with a Serendipity Dinner, I’m offering you a chance to invite in new sparks of potential.
A Serendipity Dinner is an evening out to gather with awesome people and make new connections. At Tavola, my private villa resort in the Fiji Islands, we gather around the table (a tavola in Italian), lingering under the stars and sharing tales and laughter. Those shared memories are precious, and so are the friendships and ideas that have sparked.
In my life, I’ve had the good fortune to break bread and raise a glass at several serendipitous gatherings. In New York City at a communal dinner, I met a dynamic, entrepreneurial couple who were creating a Nespresso competitor, and I later spent two weeks with them in Capetown, South Africa to advise on the launch of their business. On another occasion, I sat down across from Barbara and Richard Starkey — if you’re a Beatles fan, you’ll know him as Ringo Starr. (Whaaaaat?!)
More recently I’ve hosted serendipity dinners in San Francisco and in Palo Alto, California. Next up are two dinners in August. Next Thursday, August 1 we’ll be in Sausalito for the opening of the Art of Jerry Garcia followed by dinner on the waterfront. And on Wednesday, August 28 we’ll gather in Berkeley for fantastic farm-to-table dining. Every dinner seems to bring together just the right mix of people. A bit of alchemy — and serendipity!
Can I count you in? I have 2 spots left for The Art of Jerry Garcia + Serendipity Dinner in Sausalito next Thursday, August 1. I’d love to have the pleasure of your company.
