We need each other

I spent the pandemic marooned in paradise. Fiji closed the borders, and I was locked in. No coming or going — for two years. I count myself lucky that I was surrounded by resilient and witty women, who know how to support when the going gets dark. They became my soul sisters, and I treasure them and the memories of our castaway times together.

This week one of these Fiji sisters sent me a link to a music video — Find Your People by Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, and I’ve been listening to it on repeat. It’s a rock-bluegrass stomper that makes you want to get up and dance. So that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. The beats are catchy and the lyrics really do it for me:

Verse: You gotta find your people
Ones that make you feel alright
The kind you want to stay up with all night
You got to find your people
The ones that make you feel whole
That won’t leave your side when you lose control
The ones that don’t let you lose your soul

Verse: You gotta find your people
The ones that get the joke
Who understand what you’re saying before a word is spoke
You gotta find your people
That put the needle in the groove
When you’re together, you got nothing to prove
When you’re together, you got nothing to lose

Chorus: In a world of strangers you don’t know who to trust
All you see is danger, tryna find what you lost
You can’t go in alone, everybody needs help
You gotta find your people, then, you’ll find yourself

Fact is, we need each other. We need places to belong.
Life is more joyous, more sweet, and more fun with friends for the journey.

That’s why I started my resort in Fiji, as a place to gather and renew. And that’s why I started Mavericks, my online community for innovators and entrepreneurs. For the entrepreneur, the road is often lonely and uncertain. Having friends who understand the path, and can help, is gold.

In Mavericks people post about upcoming IRL meetups like Serendipity Dinners, workshops and retreats. They post about conferences to pitch angel investors. And they post tips and lighthearted shares. Once a month we meet virtually to laugh, tell stories and support. I’m super excited to see the collaborations bubbling — like two founders in charitable giving amplifying each other, and a coach and retreat organizer teaming to spread the word. People arrive, ask for what they need, and we have great fun delivering that. Everyone wins.

Why not join us this month? Click here and use the code LUCKY to get a month free. In the next few weeks there’s a Masterclass with Maverick Kit Hayes — Mind Your (dang!) Business, two Serendipity Dinners in Berkeley and NYC, a Reinvention Workshop with Bruce Cryer, and our monthly virtual meetup.

You gotta find your people, then, you’ll find yourself. 🎶 🎉 🎶
